Iran-Armenia-Russia: new negotiations
April negotiations at the level of deputy ministers of transport and railway departments of Iran, Armenia and Russia focused on the development of North-South and regional logistics projects. The meetings concerned improving railway communications, increasing freight traffic and activating transit hubs through Armenia, subject to political stability and security guarantees. For Armenia, such corridors are the most important chance to diversify transit flows and reduce dependence on traditional routes through closed or conflict areas. However, implementation depends on the political will of the neighbors and on the guarantee of transit security - without this, investors will not come. For Iran and Russia, the projects are of economic interest as an alternative to Western routes.
